Slumdog Millionaire and the Oscars

So finally the Impossible has been achieved! or rather more than the impossible. Eight Oscars!!! Nothing short of a Miracle! The movie was superb. It was an all around effort which made its mark.

Slumdog Millionaire
Frieda Pinto - Slumdog Millionaire

I found something similar between storyline from the movie and the Oscars. The storyline goes somewhat like this… A boy from the slums goes on to win the show “Who wants to be a Millionaire” in the process of serching for his love of his life.  I found this storyline similar to our dear Indian cinema, doing what they love to do and in the process winning the Oscars. The boy in the slum being Indian cinema and the prize money of a Million rupees being the Oscars! It is rather a coincidence that both happened at the same time!

Indian cinema is one of the largest in the world with thousands perhaps millions having a livelihood from it. It has a large number of extremely talented artists and techinicians who were not given any notice till now. Now we know that we can make it anywhere. Let us take it further. Let us make an all Indian movie and win again.

What I say does not mean that Oscars mean everything. We dont need the Oscars to tell us how good we are. No no. But when we go international, the one thing everyone knows about are the Oscars and for that reason alone should we do it.

This is a moment for all of us to enjoy and cherish. From this time on we shall not be ignored but remembered that “Yes We Can!”.  Let us take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful people who brought this movie out. To the hundreds who worked in the film. Thank you all.

The Oscars won by Slumdog Millionaire include

The best Picture
The best Director
The best Music (Score)
The best Music (Song)
The best Editing
The best Mixing
The best Cinematography &
The best Writing (Adapted Screenplay)

Good job.
